Directions from International Falls

Follow the signs in International Falls (downtown area) to the International Bridge. Cross the bridge to Fort Frances Ontario. You will clear Canada Customs after you have crossed the bridge. As you exit customs turn left at the first intersection.  Go to the second light.  You will see a sign for Rt. 11 west.  Turn left and proceed about 25-30 miles to the intersection of Rt. 71.  Turn right (only goes right). Continue north on 71 through Nester Falls and Sioux Narrows. Approximately 35 miles north of Sioux Narrows highway 71 intersects with the Trans-Canada Highway 17. Turn right (East) on 17. Travel east approximately 15 miles. Hawk Lake Road exits to the right at the top of the hill as you pass over the CP Rail viaduct. Follow the road signs South 4 kilometers/2.2 miles to the lodge.

Follow the gravel road south. Cross over the rail lines.  Follow the road without making any turns for another 1.5 miles to the welcome sign.  Bear right and the road ends at the Lodge.

Estimated travel time: International Falls Minnesota to the lodge, 2.75 hours after you clear Canada Customs.

Directions from Winnipeg

We are about 3 hours driving time from the Winnipeg airport. From the airport travel East to St. James, then right (South) to Portage. Turn left (East) on Portage. Stay in the right lane and watch for Highway 1 (the Trans-Canada Highway in Manitoba) bearing to the right. Stay on Highway 1 heading East toward Ontario and Kenora (approx. 150 miles/240 kilometers). The speed limit of 100 kph is enforced. When you pass into Ontario the Trans-Canada Highway number changes from #1 to #17.

As you approach Kenora do not exit the Trans-Canada. Stay on the by-pass (17A) (so bear left at the split) and continue East approximately 70 kilometers/45 miles to Hawk Lake Road. You will pass the intersection of Highway 71 entering from the South. We are 20 kilometers/15.5 miles East of this intersection.

Passport Requirements

All persons entering Canada will need to have in their possession a current passport. This requirement now applies to all air, land and water forms of transportation.

Travelling with Children

For those parents travelling with children without your spouse in order to make your border crossing less painful it is highly beneficial to bring a notarized letter from your spouse identifying you as their parent that is allowed to take your children into and out of Canada during the specified dates. Having this document will make your border crossing that much easier.
